+ How secure is Hive?: At Hive we take security extremely seriously. Hive employs industry standard end to end encryption, and the same security protocols as used by your friendly online bank. Hive video is only available inside our apps, which have both password and PIN protection. And Hive cameras also have a built in tamper detection notification so you know if someone has been messing with the system.
+ Who can see the video from the camera?: If Hive is armed and detects motion your Hive community is notified in near real-time of the event. Members of your Hive can then login to the Hive app view the video and take the best course of action. Remember, Hive video is only available inside our secure password and PIN protected apps. We never send video in the clear or attach it to email.
+ What happens if I lose my phone?: Hive mobile apps are protected by password and PIN, so even if you lose your phone, you are safe! And you can access the system from any web browser, so you stay in control even without a phone!
+ How do I control notifications to my Hive?: Hive supports an amazing array of notification methods including voice, text, push, email, Twitter and Facebook. Each Hive user chooses how they want to be notified in each of the Hive communities they are in. Want Voice, SMS and Push in your Hive but only email and Twitter in another? No problem! You can even set time delays for notification to your activators and viewers to allow you, as an owner, to deal with the event first.
+ Can I use Hive for my business?: Yes, Hive is the perfect, affordable solution for small businesses. The Hive community you build for your small business will likely be different folks, such as your trusted employees and co-workers, but all the awesome Hive features are included to keep your business and property secure.
+ Can users have different roles and privileges?: Yes. Hive has a simple three-tier role system consisting of owners, activators and viewers. Owners can do everything inside Hive including inviting folks to join their Hive. Activators are typically those that need to arm or disarm – like your kids or trusted employees if you use Hive in a small business. Viewers are just that. They respond to events if your Hive is armed and the cameras detect motion. When you invite someone to your Hive you choose the role they will play in your community.
+ Tell me about Hive Labs - who are you?: Hive Labs is a startup based in the beautiful cities of Sydney, Australia and Austin, Texas. Our experienced team of consumer electronics, mobile, cloud and Wi-Fi experts have been developing Hive since mid 2010. Originally called Vardr, Hive received a $250k grant from the Australian Government in 2010, and a further injection of capital in 2012 from a small group of committed investors. As a team, we’re focused to making beautiful, affordable, modern security solutions available to everyone.
+ Can members of my Hive look into my home?: No. Nada. Nyet. Never! Your Hive community is there to respond to events when your Hive is armed. That’s it. Period!
+ Can I use Hive to simply check into my home?: Of course! We know that sometimes you just want the peace of mind to check in on what’s going on at home. As the Hive owner, we support on-demand video capture from your cameras. Don’t worry, this additional peace of mind video is never shared with your Hive community and this feature is only available to Hive owners.
+ What happens if my Internet goes out?: If you lose your Internet connection Hive’s battery-powered cameras will record and store video locally until connectivity is reestablished. Hive cameras also support multiple Wi-Fi networks, which means that they can ‘auto magically’ connect to a known friendly neighbor’s Wi-Fi, or your own Mi-Fi puck, if your primary Internet connection is out.
+ Is Hive a good solution for streaming video?: No. If you want to continuously stream video you’ll need one of those ugly powered cameras with all those power cords! However, Hive does allow owners to check in on their home and capture an on-demand video. This additional peace of mind is great for folks that want to check in occasionally on pets, babysitters etc.
+ How else can I use Hive?: Hive is a great solution beyond traditional security. Hive’s motion sensing cameras can be used to notify you of all sorts of events such as kids coming home from school, deliveries, folks in your store room and many more.
+ Do I need to subscribe?: Hive is a subscription-based security service. Our amazing Hive cameras retail for $99 each and our subscription plan is an affordable $5 per month. There are no long-term contracts. As part of our limited run, pre-order campaign we are bundling the first twelve months subscription with one camera for $149. Additional cameras cost only $99. At $5 per month, Hive is significantly cheaper and so much better than the traditional security guys, and represents fantastic value for money.
+ Can I have Hive cameras shipped internationally?: Yes you can! At the moment we are offering free shipping in the USA and Australia and will need to charge the cost of shipping costs to other countries. If you pre-order we will contact you and advise you of these charges once we are ready to ship.
